Before moving to Eagle Rock, I lived in Downtown LA (DTLA) while attending law school & for a few years after. I currently own 3 properties in DTLA and will continue to look for opportunities. HERE IS WHY: DTLA has changed dramatically since I was a kid growing up in LA, and even more so in the last few years with the explosive growth of the Arts District; hot new restaurants like The Exchange Restaurant in the new Freehand Hotel, Shibumi, and the much anticipated Shake Shack that opened in March; a 41,000 sq. ft. Whole Foods and an Erewhon Market expected in 2019; the revitalization of Spring Street and the Grand Central Market; and new retail/residential/creative office developments like The Bloc, ROW DTLA, and the Wilshire Grand Center. Getting to DTLA has also gotten easier with the Expo Line connecting to the City of Santa Monica and the expansion of the Gold Line.
The downtown skyline is ever-changing with 25 residential developments currently under construction, particularly in South Park, impossible to miss driving along the 10/110 freeway interchange. According to BISNOW, DTLA is now second to Seattle for the most cranes in the U.S. And according to Downtown Center Business Improvement District’s (DCBID) Q4 2017 Downtown Market Report, 2017 set a record for residential development, adding 2,831 units in 11 projects. The population is expected to double again in the next decade, and DTLA is preparing with nearly 10k more units under construction, and another 30,000 units proposed. Buying property in DTLA is a smart decision and often overlooked by a lot of Angelinos, particularly Westsiders. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Westside. I lived there for 22 years, but more and more people are flocking to the downtown area seeking the ability to walk to work and entertainment options, as well as easy access to public transportation.
Whether you’re looking for your primary residence or an investment opportunity, DTLA is smart decision, and you should be asking yourself: “How do I get in on the action?” No matter where you are looking, call us for all of your real estate needs. We do it all and are here to guide you through the process.
