Thanksgiving is less than 1 week away, and no matter how you are celebrating this year, we know the home preparation is REAL, especially in THE KITCHEN! We are sharing 4 TIPS to ensure a holiday-ready-kitchen in advance of Thanksgiving day!
STOCK THE ESSENTIALS
Make a list NOW in order to avoid multiple trips to the store. Don’t want to go to the store or need a last-minute item? Use a grocery delivery service like Instacart. The last thing you want to do is stand in line at the store for one thing while your guests wait.
TEST YOUR OVEN TEMP
Use an oven-safe thermometer on the center rack of your oven & preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Heat your oven for 20 minutes & then take a temperature reading every 20 minutes for the next two hours. Find the average temp by adding all readings together – divide the total number by the number of readings you took. Your average should be around the original temperature you set. If your oven’s average temperature is incorrect after you test it, adjust the oven dial to match the internal temperature.
CLEAN YOUR OVEN
Remove & soak racks in dishwashing liquid for 2 hours. Then scrub, rinse, & dry.
Make a cleaning paste by mixing 3 spoonfuls of baking soda with water in a bowl.
Spread the paste inside the oven & let it sit overnight (note: it will turn brown overnight).
Wipe out a majority of the paste, & then spray vinegar over the leftover paste residue. The vinegar will react with the baking soda by fizzing & loosening debris, making it easier to remove. Wipe out any remaining residue.
Set oven to a low temp & leave on for about 20 minutes.
OR, better yet, check if your oven has a “CLEAN” button on it…if so, press that button before going to bed, and by morning, your oven will be sparkling clean
DO NOT put the following items down a GARBAGE DISPOSAL: Meat, poultry skin, bones, fibrous foods (celery & potato peels), fats & oils, pasta & rice.
