Highland Park has been called a “neighborhood in the midst of a renaissance” by the The New York Times, making it an affordable alternative for young professionals to purchase a home & young couples looking for more space to start a family. “I have lived in Highland Park for almost 10 years now, and it’s hard to imagine a better neighborhood in LA to call my home. Growing up on the westside, I did not venture much farther east than La Brea, and it was actually my New Yorker wife who convinced me to cross over to the Eastside. Highland Park has all the raw goods you would want from a neighborhood: easy access to public transportation with a Metro Gold Line stop in the center of town, two main boulevards (“Fig & York”) filled with coffee shops, artisan bakeries, a movie theater, and a variety of shops and restaurants – all an easy walk from the many historic craftsman-style homes and bungalows constructed in the 1920s. Just south is Debs Park (offering hiking trails, picnic areas, a lake, and a dog park), with Dodger Stadium and Downtown Los Angeles just 10 minutes away. Fig & York have been the heartbeat of Highland Park for over 100 years, but you can’t walk a block without noticing a new shop or restaurant. Our family enjoys it all, whether dining at newer places like Cafe Birdie, Joy, and Kitchen Mouse, or going to the longtime classics like Folliero’s Pizza (an institution for over 50 years!) and El Huarache Azteca. There are also lots of entertainment options like The Hi Hat, Lodge Room, Highland Park Bowl (oldest bowling alley in LA!), ETA, The Offbeat Bar, and The Hermosillo. With Highland Park being surrounded by a number of neighborhoods with their own unique charm and history, like Mt. Washington, Eagle Rock, & Pasadena, I find myself asking, why go west of Vermont?”
